Uncle Sam and the Health Care Scam

July 1st, 2010 3 comments

I can’t really take credit for this, but I ran across it floating around on Facebook. A great hat tip to Bonnie Pharr and her friend Betty Johnson. My apologies for the small liberties I’ve taken with your wonderful writing – call it poetic license 😀

I do not like this Uncle Sam.
I do not like his health care scam.
I do not like when Congress steals.
I do not like their secret deals.

I do not like this speaker Nan.
I do not like this “YES WE CAN.”
I do not like their spending sprees.
Because I know that nothing’s free.

I do not like their smug replies
When I complain about their lies.
I do not like this kind of hope-
I do not like it NOPE NOPE NOPE!

Short, sweet, and fun. I’ll be back later with something a little more serious…

Cheers!

UPDATE: Hat Tip to Jeff – if you’ve read the comments, you’ll notice an earlier mention of our country’s budget woes. In fact, the worst since WWII! Here’s Jeff’s short hand explanation:

To give you some perspective on this story… this is like a family with an income of $23,800 a year having $130,000 in debt. On top of that, they’re spending $38,800 a year, that’s $15,000 in the hole. Oh yeah, you start paying on another $9,400 for health care next year…

Cult of Personality

Cult of Personality by Living ColorSo, I was watching Bill Whittle and his cronies doing their most recent Trifecta – Regurgitation Radio: Talking Points for the Obama Nation and it described a nauseatingly weird website called My Barack Obama dot Com.  After throwing up a little in my mouth, this song came to mind… Happy Saturday!

The Cult of Personality!

Happy Saturday! Muahahahah.

Theatrical Thursday in New York

May 27th, 2010 Comments off

The most protean aspect of comedy is its potentiality for transcending itself, for responding to the conditions of tragedy by laughing in the darkness. ~Harry Levin

The perception of the comic is a tie of sympathy with other men, a pledge of sanity, and a protection from those perverse tendencies and gloomy insanities in which fine intellects sometimes lose themselves. A rogue alive to the ludicrous is still convertible. If that sense is lost, his fellow-men can do little for him. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I figured a laugh would be a nice thing to have this Thursday morning, and these guys have a ton of laughable videos on YouTube. I haven’t been around to see someone pull off a goofy stunt like this, but the chuckles, laughter, or at least bemusement seems like it would have made the experience worth the while.  So enjoy this Theatrical Thursday, and I’ll see you later.

Cheers all 😀

Obamafeld

PJTV @ Pajamas Media has a great little video up – a nice Seinfeld spinoff that nails the current crop of politicos. Some of the best in terms of caricatures. And the content is hysterical ’cause it’s right out of existing video. Want a chuckle??

Visit PJTV Obamafeld.

Update 20100414: Click the picture for YouTube access, it seems PJTV has archived this little gem away from non-subscribers.

Stony River’s Microfiction Monday #9

February 21st, 2010 17 comments

It is that time again, Susan’s Microfiction Monday that is – and it happened before I managed to get my post on the Middle East up and running! I’ve a book review going up later that will introduce a talented new writer, so buy the book when I give the link!!

Microfiction Monday is hosted by Susan over at Stony River, and it is a wonderfully direct and short short short story based on a picture she provides. In fact, the story is so short, well, it’s tweetable! Tell a complete story in a 140 characters or less – and join the Monday Fundays.

This Monday’s Trigger:

Lapine? A Language?

Lapine? A Language?

Of course I’d like to be El-ahrairah Fiver,

he’s only the best trickster ever.

Were I like him I’d have us to Watership Down in no time!

I suppose I lamed that one a bit by relying so heavily on a book… but my kids and I LOVED that book! It’s a great one to read aloud to kids – it reads like poetry – it’s the best kind of prose for the young and young at heart… if a bit scary!  Stay tuned here, a book review of one of our fellow players is due here shortly!!

Cheers fellow travelers!

Quartzville – Early Morning

January 28th, 2010 5 comments

Decided on an easy post for this Thursday – I wanted to take off into the hills with my wife, daughter, and brother. Too much fun, too many great photos, and Einstein the dog had a better time than we did… I think 😀

Come spring time, the water line will actually make it up pretty close to the tree line. The black spots in this photo are actually tree stumps that wind up underwater once the snow pack starts melting. Click on the photo for a full size view of the photo.

Early Morning Idyll

Cheers Everyone!

[Update: It seems the YouTube version has been removed, here’s a version from another site.]

Stony River’s Microfiction Monday #4

January 17th, 2010 12 comments

There is a fun writing exercise hosted by Susan at Stony River.  Be sure to drop by and check out the many thoughts on a single image. Join in and have some fun ;-) Hope to see you there!

And the triggering town this week?

“Now Echo,” said Hera,

“beware that beautiful boy, he’ll be the end of your perfect body!”

“Now Echo,” said Echo,

vaingloriously gazing at…

This one immediately called to mind the Roman version of the Narcissus story. Fought with it a bit, but it finally came in under par 😉 Maybe next week will be better! 😀

Cheers All, Happy Monday.

No Soup For You!

January 15th, 2010 Comments off

Sorry there isn’t a new post for Thursday, but I’ve been tied up with the flu and wrapped up in the last two posts on crime. Wait, speaking of those last two posts, I’ll consider my job here mostly done (ala Princess Bride).

But I can’t let it go entirely… my Dad likes my Harley I think, I’m not sure if he likes the guys in my club, but in a great show of diplomacy, he did send along a great article listed by Rustmeister entitled Three Reported Missing After Animal Rights Activists Take “War on Leather” to Motorcycle Rally. Here’s a small snippet to convince you to visit his site and read the entire article. It’s short and funny.

“I… I was trying to show my outrage at a man with a heavy leather jacket. And, he… he didn’t even care. I called him a murderer, and all he said was, ‘You can’t prove that.’ Next thing I know is he forced me to ride on the back of his motorcycle all day, and not let me off, because his girl friend was out of town and I was almost a woman.”

Still others claimed they were forced to eat hamburgers and hot dogs under duress. Those who resisted were allegedly held down while several bikers “farted on their heads.”

Police officials declined comments on any leads or arrests due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, however, organizers for the motorcycle club rally expressed “surprise” at the allegations.

Cheers!
