Memorial Day – Arlington
May 30th, 2010
This is a video found by my buddy Dan, with many thanks! Though I’ve got the album (CD to those younger than I), I didn’t know about this beautiful tribute with slides to a wonderful song. So for today’s post, please take the time to watch a quiet song honoring our fallen citizen soldiers, and perhaps it’ll jerk a few tears from you as it did me. While you’re at it, drop on by for a look at my online buddy Tom’s entries at Responsibility – Freedom Demands It… the second has another video that is well worth the time it takes to watch it.

Very nice, Steven. I had never seen that one. Happy Memorial Day to you and yours. Godspeed,
Tom

I remember my buddy Bill most of all. He was dumb as a post school-wise, but would give you his last drop of blood if he thought you needed it. He could also sit in a mudhole for months on end and still wake up smiling. That guy loved the Army.
As much as I like the concept of citizen soldiers, at last count there were over 37,000 non-citizens serving in our military in combat zones. I couldn’t find a count of non-citizen casualties, but with those kinds of numbers there’s likely some. I’d say we should reflect on that, too. There’s people who believe enough in the American dream to fight for it without even the guarantee of making it to the end. That’s a certain kind of special, the kind that makes your chest swell up with something other than pride.
@Jeff
I realized what that feeling “other than pride” was – humility.
