Stony River’s Microfiction Monday #9

February 21st, 2010

It is that time again, Susan’s Microfiction Monday that is – and it happened before I managed to get my post on the Middle East up and running! I’ve a book review going up later that will introduce a talented new writer, so buy the book when I give the link!!

Microfiction Monday is hosted by Susan over at Stony River, and it is a wonderfully direct and short short short story based on a picture she provides. In fact, the story is so short, well, it’s tweetable! Tell a complete story in a 140 characters or less – and join the Monday Fundays.

This Monday’s Trigger:

Lapine? A Language?

Lapine? A Language?

Of course I’d like to be El-ahrairah Fiver,

he’s only the best trickster ever.

Were I like him I’d have us to Watership Down in no time!

I suppose I lamed that one a bit by relying so heavily on a book… but my kids and I LOVED that book! It’s a great one to read aloud to kids – it reads like poetry – it’s the best kind of prose for the young and young at heart… if a bit scary!  Stay tuned here, a book review of one of our fellow players is due here shortly!!

Cheers fellow travelers!

    “Watership Down!” What a brilliant idea. I haven’t thought of the book in years. I read it in high school and loved it!

    This gave me a strange mix of childhood delight and adult shame… because I loved Watership Down as a kid – because I saw the cartoon. I’ve never gotten around to reading it, which is where the shame comes from I imagine.

    Very nice, Steve!

    That’s one book I’ve heard of but never read. I should rectify that!

    Watership Down, what a great book! My kids had rabbits for a while as pets, and they were all named after the characters LOL

    @quilly Thanks to Susan’s picture, I dug the old book out of the boxes in my garage – along with a few other childhood favs like CS Lewis’ fantastic Narnia series for my grandson! Glad it sparked the memory of a well read book 😀

    @Bill Thanks!

    @shakira If you get a chance, it’s a great read… and the animated feature film was stunning in its time – though it scared my oldest daughter at the time, she loved the adventure 😉

    @John *grin* hard to take, huh?

    @southlakesmom 😀 Thank you.

    @Jeff Thanksf – I still like the cartoon, it was a lot of fun even for an old fart 😉

    @Barbara H. Definitely a book worth reading, even after one is all grown up!

    @Sylvia Kirkwood Thank you – and I’m putting that star up on my refrigerator! 😛

    @Susan at Stony River 😀 those were some great character names! What a grand bunch of little heroes!!

    Ooh, I love Watership Down – a real tear-jerker. I live not far from the ‘real’ Watership Down so it’s quite special 🙂

    @Thom Thanks – I appreciate the comment and visit my friend!

    @jabblog uk Now that is too cool! I’ve a mind to visit before I’m eatin’ dirt! I’ve made it to Scotland and Ireland – and had a right proper pub brawl in both places 😛 Time to make it to larger Island and visit some spots I’m achin’ to see! I’ve only seen pictures – mostly of the horse farms near Watership Down. Blessed you are to be livin’ there 🙂

    @juliana Definitely worth the read – or the watch, if you’d prefer a DVD! A fun story – though a little violent for toddlers.

    @hope Thank you very much! Yup, gotta love those books!

    @Nessa 😀 Too right. Wonderful stories from which to pick!

    Cool microfiction. Nice to see a different book than Alice In Wonderland referenced, though have to admit that I never made it to the end of Watership Down when I did it at school.
