Stony River’s Microfiction Monday #4

January 17th, 2010

There is a fun writing exercise hosted by Susan at Stony River.  Be sure to drop by and check out the many thoughts on a single image. Join in and have some fun ;-) Hope to see you there!

And the triggering town this week?

“Now Echo,” said Hera,

“beware that beautiful boy, he’ll be the end of your perfect body!”

“Now Echo,” said Echo,

vaingloriously gazing at…

This one immediately called to mind the Roman version of the Narcissus story. Fought with it a bit, but it finally came in under par 😉 Maybe next week will be better! 😀

Cheers All, Happy Monday.

Love the subtle allusion to how those beautiful boys change our perfect bodies…methinks it’s mutual though! Good reference too!

Hera is so right – love overcomes all, especially perfection!

I love your take on the picture. The picture does conjour up feelings of vanity.
It still amazes me the different perceptions we all have!
    good job! 🙂

Another good take on the Picture, I think most of us took the Vanity route to some extent. Well Done.

Ah, yes, most of us wrestle with a bit of vaingloriousness at times.

Poor Echo! You brought back all times my heart broke for those gods and goddesses while reading their myths way back when. I LOVE IT! Echo’s story was one of my favourites. Narcissus not so much, I wanted to boot his a$$ into the water LOL

I love it!!! Great take on the pic of the day. It’s really fun reading everyone’s take on the same picture, but it does pretty much come down to vanity in one form or another! This is such a fun meme! Have a great week!

@southlakesmom I think you’re right! Though I suppose a few trips to the gym might keep my fanny out of my shoes LOL.

@jabblog Love does do some amazing things 😉 not always what we expect.

@Peggy Thank you! Yup, it definitely conjured up a bit of the mischievous and the vain for me!

@Bill Thanks – yup again, vanity of vanities, everything is a chasing after the wind, eh? Or something like that 😉

@Barbara H. Whether physical, intellectual, or otherwise, I think you’re right! Somewhere along the way, we tend to stumble on our pride over something… hopefully we get to laugh at it!

@Susan at Stony River *huge grin* I wasn’t certain anybody would get the reference because I’m another old fart. Since our schools didn’t teach my daughters much in the way of mythology – I forced the poor girls to read Bullfinch’s… Bent over that way, after spurning poor Echo, you would have had four more sets of boots to send the feckless jerk into the drink!!

@Sylvia Kirkwood Thank you! It is great fun to participate in this exercise each week!

@juliana Absolutely! Love mythology – tho my kids might be right… I need to brush up on my pop culture references! 😀

@hope Glad you got a smile out of it. Hope you have a wonderful week!

Poor Echo… That’s what happens when you fall in love with somebody who’s just in love with themselves.
