@tom Vail

You're right Tom. It's great to see the turn around in the manner of treatment. My wife had a POW bracelet while in high school and we were honored to attend his return in 1973... and were promptly harassed and spit at as we left his ceremony at the Naval Air Station. I joined the following year.

Thanks to you and yours for your unfettered service! Though I made fun of the sales, I do hope more folks at least honor those vets and citizens that have shed blood in our defense.

@Susan at Stony River

My great thanks to your father! And to you for expressing your pride in your father's service.

ohhh! And the sales - why, I got a flag and an apple pie on the cheap... so i bought four of each! Guess I can't believe how shocked :roll: people are that this day gets commercialized. On the bright side, there sure are some great posts out there celebrating the day and its history!

Yesterday, I attended an event in McMinnville (a Rotary meeting) at which Veterans were honored. A few of us were Vietnam era vets. It is nice to see the complete turnaround from the reception we got in the late 60s and early 70s. Thank you, Steven, and all your relatives, for your service. We are where we are today (well, not the dysfunctional government part, but the other remaining freedoms) because of your service and that of others like you.

Loved it, and laughed at the Veterans Day Sale remark LOL. I come from a long line of Vets too; one of the things I'm proudest of in my life is being the daughter of a WWII veteran.

So, what deals did you get?
